New street department facility open

Special To The Weekly Vista

BELLA VISTA -- The department that once operated from a single-wide, rented trailer has a new home.

Come out to the brand new Bella Vista Street Department facility and celebrate starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12.

The building is located at 2471 Forest Hills Blvd., across from the Boys and Girls Club just south of Rogers Road.

Tours of the facility will be available. This is the first-ever brand-new city building.

Bella Vista city government took over street maintenance from the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association starting in 2012. Since then, trucks and equipment have been housed off Pinion Valley Drive, where the staff operated out of a trailer office.

The department had a staff of 12 at the time the city took over, with a fleet of eight vehicles and equipment. Today, the department operates with 22 full-time employees, four seasonal employees and a fleet of 48 vehicles and various heavy equipment, including dump trucks, backhoes, an excavator, bulldozer, and other equipment necessary to maintain city streets and rights of way.
