The Bella Vista/Bentonville Photography Club met April 19 for their regular monthly meeting at the Bentonville Library.

The program was presented by three of the club's members. Jan Halgrim gave a slideshow of her recent trip to the Southwest. Kim Kravitz showed a collection of her printed portraits. Doug Keck gave a slideshow of his landscape photos.

Tips for portraits:

• Shutter speed never below 200 for hand-held shots.

• F/2 or wide open aperture brings attention to the subject by making the background out of focus.

• If using a speed light, take off camera.

• When using reflectors, use gold on cloudy days, silver for sunny days.

• Shoot women above eye level, with body and hip turned (to make the female body curvy).

• Shoot men below eye level and straight on for a sense of power.

• Starstax is a free download to capture multiple shoots with camera on a tripod, in one place.

The April digital contest was "Black and White." Linda Hupp won first place, John Wooley won second place and Julie Hull won third place.

The May program will be presented by photographer Greg Disch. The May digital program will be "Flowers." Send one jpeg digital photo to Doug Keck at [email protected] by Sunday, May 15. The May monthly meeting will be 6 p.m. May 17 at the Bentonville Library. Anyone interested in photography is invited to attend.
