Members of the Bella Vista Fly-Tyers Club and the Bella Vista POA Lakes staff hosted an outdoor activities day on June 3. The activities were held at Granton Park on Loch Lomond. Approximately 100 students from Baker Elementary School in Bentonville (plus teachers and volunteer parents) attended the activities. Kurt Wing, a teacher at Baker, coordinated the activities for the students.

After being divided into small groups, students were rotated between fishing and riding on one of the four pontoon boats and on-shore fishing demonstrations.

Twelve members of the Fly-Tyers Club served as fishing guides and pontoon boat captains. The volunteers were Wilson Scott Jr. and niece Kathy, Captain Tom, Gary Henderson, Terry Crain, Beth Armour, Marvin Macedo, Hank Hernandez, Russ Tonkinson, Dan Bullock, Club President Ed Fischer, and Chris Tabat.

BVPOA Lakes staff Chris Fuller and John Urquhart spoke on fish species in Bella Vista's lakes. Live fish were available for the kids to see.

Ray Atkinson with the Fly-Tyers demonstrated types of fishing flies and their construction.

Gary Rowland with the Fly-Tyers presented a program on types of fishing rods and reels and his large collection of various fishing lures.

The Bella Vista Fly-Tyers Club is a fishing, conservation and service club consisting of approximately 180 members. The Club promotes fishing, lake, and recreational activities and conducts service projects throughout northwest Arkansas. The Club meets every Thursday morning beginning at 9 a.m. at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista.
