Golf and school supplies go together at tournament

Joe Aubrey, golf pro at the Kingwood/Berksdale courses, thought it would be nice to offer something different for the golfers playing in the annual All in the Family Tournament.

The tournament on July 23-24 is for members and their guests, with each team made up of two relatives excluding husbands and wives. Several nonresident members make the tournament an annual event.

Aubrey asked Becky Meskill, branch manager at the Arvest Bank in Sugar Creek Center, about cooking hot dogs on Saturday. She agreed, but it came with a price. Meskill's branch is collecting school supplies for elementary-school students, so the pair teamed up. On July 23, Arvest employees will be busy cooking and passing out free hot dogs and accepting donations for school supplies.

The golfers probably won't have school supplies on hand to donate, Meskill explained, so the bank employees will accept a monetary donation and use it to purchase supplies. They'll be driving a specially decorated golf cart to add to the fun.

The supplies will go to all the elementary schools that serve Bella Vista students, Meskill said.

Sometimes people forget there's more than one school serving Bella Vista, she explained. Cooper Elementary School and other Bentonville district schools with Bella Vista students will get supplies, as will Gravette Elementary School, which serves all the Highlands area in western Bella Vista.

The hot dogs will be served on Saturday because Sunday's lunch is included in the tournament fee, Aubrey said. To find more about the golf tournament, call the Kingsdale pro shop at 479-855-8123.
