s Artwork from inventor Samuel F.B. Morse will be on display at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art beginning Jan. 23. Morse's "Gallery of the Louvre and the Art of Invention" can be viewed through April 18 in the Early Twentieth Century Gallery at the Bentonville museum. Before helping develop the telegraph and Morse code, Morse was a painter and studied three years in Paris beginning in 1829. Gallery of the Louvre, part of the permanent collection of the Terra Foundation for American Art in Chicago, depicts some of the French museum's best-known works.

Wednesday, Feb. 10

s The monthly meeting of the Iota Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will be at the home of Kay Nelson. Jan Thurman will be co-hostess. The program, presented by Shirley Sheets, will be about the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. Northwest Arkansas Food Bank will also be the service project for the month. Friday, Feb. 12

s Central Arkansas-based guitar trio Finger Food will be in concert at the Artist Retreat Center. Their music is a feast not only for guitar lovers, but for anyone with a passion for acoustic music. It focuses on contemporary instrumental American Fingerstyle Guitar with folk, jazz, Celtic, classical and blues influences. The performance is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. Finger Food played a sold-out performance at the ARC last summer. For this concert, the music will be moved to the larger studio room. Reservations can be made at 479-268-6463. The Artist Retreat Center is at 13467 Lookout Drive in Old Bella Vista.

s The Knights of Columbus will hold their 24 annual Lenten Fish Fry at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 1 St. Bernard Lane, Bella Vista. The Social Hall opens at 5 p.m and serving begins at 6 p.m. Guests are welcome, and tickets at $10 per person are necessary. They may be purchased Monday -- Thursday at the church office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., or at the Social Hall from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning. This year there will be a special raffle held by the State of Arkansas for a red Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab pickup truck. Tickets for this are also $10 and will be for sale at the Fish Fry. The truck will be on display Feb. 26 and March 11.

Saturday, Feb. 13

s The Bella Vista Big Band will present a Valentine's Day Dance at Riordan Hall from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The band will be playing Ballroom, Swing and Latin music for dancing. Arrive at 7 p.m for a free dance lesson by Dance and Swing. Tickets are $10 per person at the door. Property ownership is not required; the public is considered guests of the Bella Vista Big Band.

s The Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce Business Matters Breakfast begins at 8 a.m (check-in is 7:30). As the Northwest Arkansas economy continues to explode, one key challenge is a transportation system that works. Come to the breakfast to learn about major upcoming transportation plans and updates on projects currently underway in Northwest Arkansas. Scott Bennett, Director of the Arkansas State Highway Department; Bentonville Mayor Bob McCaslin, and Terry Franklin, Director of Finance and Properties with Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport are the guest speakers. A brief Q & A will follow the presentations.

s The Watoto Children's Choir will be in concert 7 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road, Bella Vista. Watoto Children's Choir is a group of 18 children from Uganda traveling with a team of Ugandan adults. The choir has toured the U.S. and the world. Their performance "Oh, What Love," is a blend of native African rhythms, contemporary gospel music and ethnic dance. The choir is made up of children who have lost one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic or to war. Watoto means "children" in Swahili. The performance is free and open to the public. s The Nebraska Club of Bella Vista will hold its first meeting at Papa Mike's at 4 p.m. A social hour will be followed by dinner at 5 p.m. Dinner reservations are due by Feb. 20 and should be mailed to K.
