Lynn Atkins/The Weekly Vista The Yacht Club building has been empty since Shrimpman’s Inn Restaurant closed in 2011. A recent request to have the property rezoned was approved by the City Council opening up new possibilities for the building’s future.

When members pressed the POA's new general manager about plans for one of the empty buildings, the Yacht Club, he mentioned a few possibilities including a restaurant or an event venue. He's also interested in increasing the number of kayaks available for rent at the nearby marina.

It's a great location and the building has good bones, he said, but the POA needs to formulate a long-term plan before making a decision on the Yacht Club. The building would need to be updated, he said, and some improvements are needed to bring it into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Yacht Club, on the shore of Loch Lomond just above the marina, was rezoned C-2 at the

POA's request during the last Bella Vista City Council meeting. That zoning allows more options than C-1 zoning, including bars and multiple businesses in the same location. When the city was formed in 2007, the area was zoned residential, but the restaurant that was in operation was grandfathered in. That restaurant closed in December 2011.

"With the recent approval of C-2 zoning by the city, this now gives the POA the ability to start developing plans," Judson said in an email. "Keep in mind, the Yacht Club is one of numerous amenities that make up the POA, and before I or the board start proposing or implementing anything for the Yacht Club, we need to thoughtfully develop a comprehensive long-term plan for the entire POA."
