A Super Bowl experience

As the country prepares to watch the 50th Super Bowl, I was saddened to hear that Bart Starr, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I, can no longer remember any of the time he spent in the NFL. Being an ardent fan of the K.C. Chiefs, I purchased four tickets to the first game for which I paid a total of $60. List prices for this year's game were $400 up to $1,400. The scalp price today is $5,000 each. That is called inflation.

Game day in Los Angeles was covered with the thickest fog I had ever seen. The L.A. Colosseum has a huge track that runs all around the football field -- which put the first row of seats a long way from the game. The fog was so thick you couldn't see the people on the other side and the game was hard to follow.

Green Bay beat the Chiefs 35 to 10, and the coach of Green Bay said after the game that playing the Chiefs was much like playing a high school team -- a remark that made me hate Vince Lombardi until the day he passed away.

Still, it was an experience I will never forget.
