Trout stocked in Lake Brittany

n The species will be stocked once a month through April.

Although there was not a quorum present, the Joint Advisory Committee on Lakes met last week and heard a report from Rick Echols, the POA's Lakes and Parks superintendent.

The first rainbow trout of the season were stocked at Lake Brittany on Nov. 18, Echols said. About 1,000 harvestable-sized fish, along with 3,000 smaller fish, were added. The small fish are only stocked in November and should be large enough to harvest by spring. Trout usually don't survive the summer in the lake, he explained.

Subsequent stockings are tentatively scheduled for the first Thursday of each month through April, he said.

More than 9,000 catfish were stocked in all the Bella Vista lakes. Echols said he chose to stock larger fish this year so they are less likely to be eaten by bass.

The POA has applied for permission for a small draw down of Loch Lomond, Echols said. There is work needed on the wall just below the building that will house the new Lake Point Events Center.

In that same area, Echols expects to see the new fishing dock complete this month. Some of the brush removed for the building construction will become lake habitat under the new dock.
