Poetry Cafe at Cooper Elementary

Special To The Weekly Vista

Second-graders will be serving up some literature at Cooper Elementary School this week and visitors are welcome. The Cooper Cafe is a reading restaurant, Literacy Coach Kim Green said. The menu includes an appetizer in the form of a tongue twister, a choice of entrees and a poetry dessert.

Students will serve as hosts and hostess, waiters and chefs. After the customers are seated, the waiters take their order. There will be three or four books on the entree menu, Green said. Once the customer decides which book to order, the waiter goes and finds a chef to read the selection out loud.

There's less variety in the appetizer and dessert, Green confessed. Second-grade chefs will read those as well.

A full meal deal, appetizer, entrée and dessert will cost $1, but each can be ordered separately as well. The entrée is 50 cents; both the appetizer and the dessert will be 25 cents. All the funds will go to the second-grade book room.

Cooper Cafe will be open today and tomorrow, from 9 to 10 a.m., at the school.
