Wesley Series celebrates 20th anniversary

The Wesley Series of concerts, lectures and art exhibits, sponsored by the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista, is celebrating it 20th anniversary this year. The series, which held its first program in 1995, will celebrate the occasion with a pair of gala concerts this fall.

The first event will be an evening of music featuring Pulitzer Prize nominated jazz pianist and composer, Dan Knight. The program is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, in the Fellowship Hall. He will be joined by "The Usual Suspects," a group of local jazz virtuosos that includes drummer, Steve Wilkes, bassist Drew Packard, clarinetist Jim Jernigan and vocalist, Pam Pittman.

There will be gourmet desserts available as well as coffee and iced tea.

Usually there is no admission charge for the Wesley Series programs. However to help support future programs and partially offset the cost of this particular event, a $10 donation a person is being asked. In addition, for a donation of $25 or more, there will be an offering of CDs and DVDs of carefully selected performances from previous Wesley Series programs.

The second event in the anniversary celebration will be a concert featuring Gil Archer. This program will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, in the church sanctuary. This program will include pieces by Dietrich, Buxtehude, J.S. Bach and many others. This will be Archer's second appearance in Bella Vista.

The public is invited to the concert series.
