Festival of Worship set for Oct. 11

Two Bella Vista churches are working together to produce an event for the entire community. The Festival of Worship Through Music and Art will take place between 2 and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Highland's Church on Glasgow Road. The music begins at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary. The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista is also participating.

"It evolved over time," Leland Flickinger, Highland Church's Minister of Music, said. "The emphasis is on worship," he added.

Visual arts including oil, water colors and acrylic paints, pottery, pressed flowers, applique, quilting collage and woodworking will be displayed in the Fellowship Hall. Each of the 25 artists will include some text explaining how their work relates to their worship of God, Flickinger said.

The artists were chosen by a committee and had to meet a set of standards, he said. Not everyone's work was accepted.

"It's going to be an interesting art show," he predicted.

The two choir directors chose the music for the combined choir.

"It's not just a general program," he said. "This music is specifically worship music."

Both directors are working with the choir and each will lead one of their own selections with their own accompanist.

Pastors at each church are also involved. The pastors will read some texts in between the music.

The event is open to the public and there's no admission charge. There may be an offering box, but no offering will be collected in the sanctuary, Flickinger said.
