POA could host HGTV series

My wife and I enjoy watching many of the shows on HGTV. They have a series of "crash" shows. They have house crashing, yard crashing, bathroom crashing, and kitchen crashing.

These shows tear apart whatever it is the show is about and then rebuild it again. It is amazing how elaborate the new area is and how much some of the items cost they use for the remodeling.

I have been thinking about submitting our POA to be the host of some of these shows. They have experience in all areas. I remember when they "crashed" the bathrooms at the Kingsdale Center for a cost of $100,000. And the tennis center--Oh my.

But they probably have the most experience in "kitchen crashing." There used to be a large kitchen at the Country Club that could serve crowds of several hundred people. They crashed that and replaced it with offices and built a "bar and grill" kitchen at the other end of the building. This is what is now available for serving any large groups that might want to dine there.

Papa Mike asked the POA for a new stove and they gave him a million dollar kitchen crash that included the entire building.

They will have to "crash" the kitchen at the Yacht Club if they ever expect to open that amenity again.

They are now proposing to crash the Metfield kitchen and build a grill at the opposite end of the building. They are suggesting it be manned by POA employees, which is fine. However, if history is any indicator, the prices will be high because it seems we do not consider our restaurants as amenities and therefore do not subsidize them.

With high prices the people will not support it and there will not be enough business to keep it going. I would suspect that when the Member Services offices move out they will try to find someone to take over another restaurant in that building and rebuild the kitchen they are currently proposing to remove.

Much of this experience of "crashing" comes from the fact that we do not seem to know where we are going. We spend lots of "temporary" money. That is, we will do this temporarily while we figure out what we really should be doing.

Our POA could bring a whole new concept to HGTV. Instead of crashing a new space each week they could remodel a space over and over again to show how many different ways the same space can be used. Or, they could just stand around and talk and see how long it takes for a space to deteriorate while nothing is done to it.

Someone once said that flexibility with a plan is good--but flexibility without a plan is expensive.
