Regional planners offering 2040 highway survey

Have concerns about roads in Benton and Washington counties? Want to make sure your voice is heard? The Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission wants to hear from you.

Whether you live, work or commute between either county, the commission wants northwest Arkansans to complete a survey and comment on its 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan. The 2040 MTP is a long-range transportation plan, which will replace the current 2035 NWA Regional Transportation Plan, according to a press release from the commission.

The 2040 MTP seeks to provide a long-range, comprehensive look at the region's transportation needs and implementation strategies, including highways, transit and bicycle and pedestrian facilities, the release states.

"The recommendations will go into our 2040 plan," said Celia Scott-Silkwood, regional planner. "Staff will develop some on our own and (the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department) will have input, but the public comments are important."

Surveys can be filled out online at www.nwarpc.org. The survey is located on the right-hand side of the web page. To send a comment via email, scroll down and click the icon marked "2040 MTP," which also is on the right-hand side of the page. From there you will be prompted to list a subject heading and allotted space to leave a message.

The commission is accepting surveys through July 2015. However, it is unlikely that the commission will refuse a submission after the deadline, Scott-Silkwood said.

Surveys also can be mailed in. A physical copy can be picked up at The Weekly Vista at 313 Town Center West, or from inside the Building Division, 305 Town Center West.
