Library closed

The library will be closed July 3 and the Fourth of July for the holiday weekend.

Summer reading -- Marty the Balloon Man

Balloons, magic, interactive games, oh my! Marty the Balloon Man is always a crowd pleaser. He will be at the library starting at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25.

Summer reading -- Tommy Terrific's Wacky Magic

Wacky magician Tommy Terrific will be here to do a magnificent performance on magical superheroes. Make sure to come by the library on Thursday, July 2, at 2 p.m. for a super magical show.

Teen Summer Reading -- Book Talk

Oh no. It's halfway through summer reading. Forces are weakening, interesting books in short supply--but wait are they? It's time for a refresher. Librarian and book talk extraordinaire Jennifer Payne will be here Monday, June 29, at 2 p.m. to tell all about some great books.

Bella Vista Library Book Club

The Bella Vista Library Book Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24. The group of readers always has a blast. June's book is The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.

Coupon Club of NWA

The Coupon Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24. This group always finds the best deals and great coupons. Come by and join in on the fun.

Movie Club

The first meeting of the Movie Club will be on June 24. Since there was just a Triple Crown Winner: American Pharoah, how about a movie about the 1973 Triple Crown winner -- Secretariat. The movie Secretariat was made by Disney in 2010 and is about another Triple Crown winner in 1973.

Movie will start at 5:30 p.m. There will be a short discussion afterward. Suggestions for additional movies and talk about what kinds of movies everyone likes to watch will be taken.

Silly Songs and Stories

Silly Songs and Stories meets every Friday morning at 10 a.m. Bring your preschoolers and join this fun group for stories and crafts. Be sure to come to Storytime this week to listen to a good story.

B'Creative Stitchers

This fun group of needleworkers includes any and all handwork such as cross stitching, embroidery, quilting, knitting, weaving and crocheting. The B'Creative Stitchers meet every Monday morning from 10 a.m. to noon.

Knitters and Crocheters

Knitter and crocheter wannabes are invited to brush up on their skills and learn some new techniques from 1 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday. Novices will be guided by experienced knitters and crocheters. Participants may bring their current projects or start a new one. Attendees must bring their own supplies.

E-reader training

Anyone who received an e-reader and is not quite sure how to get started may come by the Bella Vista Public Library for help. E-book training will be available every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Call the library at 479-855-1753 to schedule an appointment with Myrna, who will answer questions and teach about e-readers.

Check out a Kindle

Kindle Paperwhites and Kindle Fires are available for checkout to patrons in good standing. Each device is loaded with a specific genre of book (sci-fi, bestseller nonfiction, western, inspirational, etc.) and may be checked out for three weeks. New books are added to each device every month. See library staff members for the check-out agreement and procedure.

Encore Books

The Friends of the Library's used bookstore is open six days a week during regular library hours. The store offers everyday low pricing on hardbacks, DVDs, puzzles, children's books, paperbacks, biographies, health and wellness topics and much more. All proceeds from this ongoing fundraiser support the library. New books are added almost daily.

Teen blog

The library has a blog just for teens and is looking forward to expanding that department with new books and activities. To keep up-to-date with all the changes to the direction the teen department is going check out www.bvplteens.weebly.com.

Exhibits

Xyta Lucas has provided ceramic match holders, grandpa and grandma rocking chair banks and grandpa and grandma salt and pepper shakers for display in the back cabinets. Photos are by the Bella Vista Photography Club. Anyone interested in displaying a collection should contact Rebecca at 479-855-1753.

Hours of operation

Regular library hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with late evening hours until 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Bella Vista Public Library is located at 11 Dickens Place, just east of Town Center off Lancashire Boulevard. For further information, call 479-855-1753.

Floral Arrangement

June's arrangement was designed and provided by Kate Pilarski. Each month, a member of the Bella Vista Garden Club creates an original floral design to be displayed for patron's enjoyment.
