Summer reading program is a success

We are already halfway through summer and my, what a summer it has been at the Bella Vista Library!

The library has been a beehive of activity for weeks. There are 115 kids participating in our Summer Reading Program and so far, they have read over 400 books. That's a lot of reading! And we still have a week to go.

We are so proud of them and how hard they have worked to maintain their reading skills. As Margaret Fuller said, "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader." I predict that Bella Vista Library readers will definitely be tomorrow's leaders. They are a great group of kids.

Our Summer Reading Program theme this year is, "Every Hero has a Story."

For the kick-off, we honored our hometown heroes and asked Bella Vista firefighters, police and EMTs to join us. They brought a fire truck, a police car and an emergency vehicle and did a fabulous job.

I just cannot say enough good things about how they interacted with the kids and answered their questions. They were extremely patient while the kids were allowed to explore the vehicles. They posed for pictures and even played with the kids and really showed them what being a hometown hero is all about. Thank you, Bella Vista Fire Department and Police Department. We salute you!

To the parents of our kids, thank you for encouraging your children to read. Thank you for so faithfully bringing your children to the library. I appreciate your patience as we step over one another during a program because of our lack of space.

I also want to say thank you to all our other patrons who do not have kids coming to the Summer Reading Program. Thank you for your patience while our programs are going on. I know it is noisy and crowded but you never complain. Thank you for your continued understanding about our lack of space. We appreciate you all.

If you have been considering making a donation to the Bella Vista Public Library Foundation, now is the time. We desperately need more space, so we can continue to have programs like Summer Reading without having to interrupt the regular flow of the library. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
