Rec panel completes paper on amenities usage

The Joint Advisory Committee on Recreation completed a White Paper on attracting more usage to Bella Vista amenities and turned it in to the board, Committee Chair Bill Puskas said after the group's July 13th meeting.

Marketing Director Ashlee Napier attended the meeting, Puskas said, and she offered some advice on the paper.

Last year, the committee wrote a paper about re-purposing the former Branchwood Golf Course and turning it into a multi-use park.

This year, the committee heard from board member John Nuttall that the board has a plan, but is having trouble finding a contractor willing to take on a small job. However, POA staff are preparing to drain the pond and fill it in. That work should be completed soon, Puskas said.

There was also a discussion about POA spending. Puskas said the committee wanted to know if the increase in fees earlier this year resulted in funds for improvements. He said he was assured that increased fees are only maintaining facilities at their current level and have not resulted in excess capital.

Also, Puskas said that Recreation Manager Clem Morgan was at the meeting and explained that the project at Metfield Clubhouse will give members more space dedicated to fitness as well as a small grill that will serve a limited menu.

When the discussion turned to a potential resurfacing project for the Metfield Park tennis courts, Puskas said it wasn't clear why the project has not been completed. At an earlier meeting, Morgan told the committee that POA maintenance workers would try and do the resurfacing themselves since there were not funds to redo the courts completely.
