An ode to crabgrass
With the lawn care season in full swing, I composed this for the not-so-serious lawn caregivers like me:
All hail to the crabgrass seed;
Folks say you'll produce just a weed.
But come next July
when most fescues dry
You'll look very green indeed.
Bluegrass grows great in May.
If you don't mow you soon will have hay.
But comes August's summer
Your lawn is a bummer
As it turns to a dull brownish gray.
So water and fertilize much
With nitrogen, potash and such.
You'll spend lots of money;
when it's dry, hot and sunny
Your lawn will be crisp to the touch.
Just let Mother Nature be boss.
You'll get chickweed, crabgrass and moss
But your yard will be green,
If you know what I mean.
Your gain is the garden shop's loss.
