Gerald Glenn

Blakely

Gerald Glenn Blakely, 89, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Circle of Life Hospice-Legacy Village in Bentonville, Ark. He was born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Plano, Ill., to Glenn Albert Blakely and Florence Brainard Kivitts.

He was a veteran, having served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of the Community Christ Church in Fayetteville, Ark. He loved to play golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Hawkins; and a sister Shirley Foster.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maryann Blakely of Bella Vista; two daughters, Betsy Holt and husband Robert of Greenfield, Ind., and Patricia Cassidy and husband Gerald of Jasper, Ind.; a son, Gary Blakely and wife Karen of Chunchula, Ala.; a sister, Gina Pierson and husband Rob of Rockford, Ill.; and many grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Mendenhall officiating. Burial followed at the Bella Vista Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Lillian Carmody

Lillian Carmody, 97, of Bella Vista, Ark., died peacefully on Jan. 4, 2014, in her home. Born in Fremont, Neb., she was the daughter of Thomas and Marie Richardson.

She lived in Fremont until her marriage to Emmett Carmody in 1936 at which time they moved to Omaha, Neb. They retired to Bella Vista in 1978, where she became a long time member of the Village Art Club. She became vice president of the Village Art Club and director of its art gallery for a year. She also served as vice president of the Village Garden Club. She was an accomplished artist and was still painting custom greeting cards until her death. She was a member of St. Bernard Church in Bella Vista.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings and her husband of 56 years.

She is survived by her two children, Michael Carmody (Mary) of Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., and Patricia Baggenstoss of Bella Vista; a brother Richard Richardson (Betty) of Omaha; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

No service is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, the Bella Vista Animal Shelter or St. Bernard Catholic Church.

JoAnn Hlavaty

JoAnn Hlavaty, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Jan. 15, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers.

She was Catholic.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her sisters, Winnifred McEuen of Concordia, Kan., and Mary Ann Keas of Littleton, Colo.

Rita Mae Jacobsen

Rita Mae Jacobsen, 88 of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Ark. She was born on Feb. 12, 1926, in New Orleans, La.

She moved to Bella Vista five years ago from Southern California.

She is survived by one son, Anker Jacobsen of Silverado Canyon, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Gibson and husband Jim of Bella Vista, Ark., and Jill Jacobsen of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Virginia M. Kalchik

Virginia M. Kalchik, 82, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. Born Sept. 21, 1932. to Albert and Myrtle Popp in Whitefish Bay, Wis.

She was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wis. After graduation she married James Kalchik on May 22, 1954, and moved to Lansing, Mich., where she was a volunteer for March of Dimes' Jean Granger Prenatal Clinic for 20 years. She was a past president of Northwest Arkansas Retired Nurses, a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista and enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards.

Preceding her in death were her brothers, James, Albert and Thomas Popp, and her parents.

Surviving are her husband, James Kalchik of Bella Vista; daughters, Sylvia (Charles) Efken of St. Louis, Mo., Rita (Herb) Cradduck of Lake Leelanau, Mich., Donna (Bob) Law of Laughlin, Nev, and Synthia (Bruce) Semon of Kingsley, Mich.; sons, Richard (Lynne) Kalchik of Winter Garden, Fla., Ronald (Laura) Kalchik of Zanesville, Ohio, Daniel (Lisa) Kalchik of Lansing, Mich., and Donald Kalchik of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Maximillian (Emma) Popp of Lake Leelanau, Mich., Mark (Lois) Popp of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Monica (Richard) Houdek of West Allis, Wis., Mary Jo (Lou) Gundrum of Hales Corners, Wis., Alice (Frank) Formolo of Brookfield, Wis., and Jane (Richard) Groff of Salem, Ore.

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Byers as celebrant.

Betty Jo Russell

Betty Jo Russell, 65, of Gravette, Ark., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale.

Survivors include two sons, Ty Russell and his wife Kelly, of Gravette, and Tad Russell of Kansas; three sisters; and five grandchildren.

Patricia Schmidt

Patricia Schmidt was born June 21, 1935, and died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, after a long illness.

She had her own cleaning business and worked at a garden center where she loved working with flowers.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise, and two great-grandchildren, Eliora and TJ.

She is survived by sons, Chuck Schmidt and Ruth, and Scott Schmidt and wife, Sandra; and a daughter, Dina Schmidt; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service for her in the spring.

Arnold Alfons Van Der Vieren, 74, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at his home. He was born May 16, 1940.
