s Community Blood Center of the Ozarks has issued a Code Yellow Alert for A negative and O negative blood types. There is currently less than a two-day supply of this type on hospital shelves and donations are needed immediately. In Bella Vista, there will be a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Highlands United Methodist Church, 371 Glasgow Road. To be eligible to give blood, you must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, and present a valid photo ID. Saturday, Feb. 28

s Sugar Creek Model Railroad and Historical Society Inc. will hold its 12th annual Great NWA Model Train Show at the Holiday Inn NWA Convention Center in Springdale. The show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 with $1 off with a nonperishable food item. Children 12 and under are free. There will be a grand prize drawing for two round-trip tickets on A&M Railroad.

Sunday, March 1

s The Bella Vista Historical Museum will be re-opening for the season even though it is in the midst of construction of an additional room onto the north end of the building for expansion of exhibits. This year, for each of the 10 months that the museum is open until the end of the year, there will be a new exhibit reflecting the 10 decades of the past 100 years, starting with 1915 when the construction of Lake Bella Vista first started, and continuing through the five decades since John Cooper Sr. opened Bella Vista Village in 1965. The museum, on Highway 71 next to the American Legion at the corner of Kingsland, will be open five days a week, Wednesdays through Sundays, noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. s Live on Stage in NWA will present "Live from Nashville" starting at 2 p.m. at the Arend Arts Center on the Bentonville High School campus. Friday, March 6

s The annual Lenten Fish Fry sponsored by the Knights of Columbus will be at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1 St. Bernard Way. The Social Hall opens at 5 p.m. and serving begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 a person and guests are welcome. The dinner consists of catfish, potato salad, coleslaw, hush puppies and dessert. Tea, water and coffee also will be served. Tickets are necessary and may be purchased at the church office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Tickets also can be purchased at Social Hall from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Sundays. There will be another fish fry on Friday, March 27. For more information call 479-855-9069.

Saturday-Sunday, March 14-15

s The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, in cooperation with the Old State House Museum and the Arkansas Humanities Council, offers "Civil War Arkansas, 1861 -- 1865", a traveling exhibit about the state's involvement in the war. The exhibit will be at the Hobbs State Park visitor center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is free and the public is invited to visit the center, which is located on Arkansas Highway 12, just east of the Arkansas 12/War Eagle Road intersection.

Monday, March 16

s The 45-member United States Air Force Band of Mid-America's Concert Band will present a concert at 7 p.m. at Gravette High School. The band plays a diverse repertoire of music ranging from symphonic band masterworks and traditional marches, to modern compositions and jazz. The band is under the direction of Maj. Christina Moore Urrutia, commander of the band stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Visit the band's website at www.bandofmidamerica.af.mil. s Live on Stage in NWA will present "Those Were the Days," at 2 p.m. at the Arend Arts Center on the Bentonville High School campus. William Florian, former lead singer for The New Christy Minstrels, will present an upbeat musical journey of the "Spirit & Songs of the 1960s.
