Silent auction items

The Friends of the Bella Vista Public Library need gently-used gift and household items for their annual silent auction fundraiser this fall. Suggested donations are: kitchenware; jewelry; golf, pet, sports and Razorback items; plus stand-alone articles, such as new TVs, quilts and other large gifts.

Donations, along with baskets of all types and sizes, may be dropped off at the library.

Hay Days library benefit

Help the library by participating in a 5K charity walk at Bella Vista's Hay Days event at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Register at the library or online at www.bvhaydays.com. A free concert follows the walk. Those who can't walk the 5K or make it to the event are invited to become a sponsor for someone else or walk around their own neighborhood.

New policy

Patrons will not be allowed to check out items if there are any outstanding overdue items on the patron's account. The library requests these overdue items be returned as soon as possible.

Brainteasers

The library hosts this event on the third Wednesday of each month. The next session will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sept. 17. Brainteasers packets are available at the front desk.

Mystery Book Club

Fans of all types of mystery, crime and suspense novels are invited to join the club, which meets in the library from 6 to 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. The books of Gregory McDonald and Jane Haddam will be the topic Sept. 17.

Technical Tuesday

Those who desire help with computers, e-readers or other "techie" devices are invited to sign up for assistance on Thursday, Sept. 18. Register at the front desk for a time slot between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Color My World

Grade-school children through adults are invited to color their cares away at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Attendees of this free program will use the provided crayons to complete a famous picture.

FOL Book Club

The Friends of the Library Book Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, to talk about "Orange is the New Black" by Piper Kerman.

Homeschoolers' Corner

Homeschoolers ages 9-18 are invited to attend a new program at 10:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of every month in the library. Participants will learn how to draw at this free program, which requires registration prior to the session on Oct. 7. Sign-up is available at the front desk.

Mayoral forum

Bella Vista's mayoral candidates will participate in a public forum at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. The candidates will be given time to relate personal information and then will be asked two or three questions regarding their platforms. City Council forum

A forum for City Council candidates will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2. The candidates will be given time to relate personal information and then will be asked two or three questions regarding their platforms. Send questions for the candidates to answer to [email protected].

Knitting Club

The Knitting Club has new dates and a new time. Both experienced and beginning knitters are invited to brush up on their skills and learn some new techniques from 1 until 3 p.m. every Tuesday. Novices will be guided by experienced knitters. Participants may bring their current projects or start a new one. Attendees must bring their own supplies.

The Bella Vista Public Library's regular hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Story Time with Dwayne

Come meet Dwayne, the Library Dog, as his owner, Ms. Faye, reads stories to kids of all ages at 9:30 a.m. on the second Friday of each month as part of the Preschool Story Time program. Plan to attend from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10.

Exhibits

September's exhibit features a collection from the Bella Vista Historical Society and items from the Bella Vista Village Art Club. Anyone interested in displaying a collection should contact Cathy at 479-876-7316.

Floral arrangement

September's arrangement was designed by Ninetta Potts. Each month, a member of the Bella Vista Garden Club creates an original floral design to be displayed for patrons' enjoyment.

Check out a Kindle

Kindle Paperwhites and Kindle Fires are available for checkout to patrons in good standing. Each device is loaded with a specific genre of book -- science fiction, bestseller nonfiction, western, inspirational, etc. -- and may be checked out for three weeks. See library staff members for the checkout agreement and procedure.

Preschool Story Time

Volunteer storytellers visit the Bella Vista Library at 9:30 a.m. every Friday. Readers are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering should call 479-855-1753.

Encore Books!

The Friends of the Library's used-book store is open six days a week during regular library hours. The store offers everyday low pricing on hardbacks, DVDs, puzzles, children's books, paperbacks, biographies, health and wellness topics and much more. All proceeds from this ongoing fundraiser support the library.

Support the troops

The library has teamed up with The Weekly Vista to send care packages to U.S. military troops serving overseas. Pick up a brochure listing the needed supplies, then drop off donations inside the library.
