Planners to consider rezoning land to C-2

Since last month's regular Planning Commission meeting was canceled, the potential rezoning of a property on Forest Hills Boulevard will be discussed at the meeting on Sept. 8.

At a work session Aug. 27, the group heard from Sherry Laemmle of Crye-Leike Realtors, who was representing the property owned by the Gantert Family Trust at 1265 Forest Hills Blvd., south of the intersection with Robin Road.

The owner is requesting the lot be zoned C-2 from its current C-1.

Laemmle said the lot is currently not for sale, but the owner is wishing to make it appealing for an investor in the future.

The property immediately north of the parcel is zoned C-1 and the property immediately west is the same, though it currently has a single-family residence.

Properties along the south and east are residential, bound by the Quantock Hills and Radnor subdivisions.

The city's land-use plan calls for that area to be residential despite the other commercial lots in the area.

The C-2 classification would "at least be permittable for a drive-in restaurant or car wash," which are lacking in that area, Laemmle said.

A public hearing will be held at the Sept. 8 meeting, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the training room at the Fire Department at Town Center.

Jennifer Bonner of the city's building division also told the group other projects are moving forward. Bella Vista Lutheran Church will begin work on the parking lot portion of its expansion project, and Village Bible Evangelical Free Church is ahead of schedule on its plans to build a new facility and is close to being granted a building permit.

The CVS Pharmacy at the intersection of Bella Vista Way and Mercy Way should be stocking its shelves in late September, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Kingsland Road was recently issued its certificate of occupancy.
