s 1 p.m. The Bella Vista Public Library will host a forum for City Council candidates. Each candidate will be given time to relate personal information and then will be asked two to three questions regarding their platforms. Seating is limited, and reservations are necessary. Those who have a question they would like the candidates to answer, or who need any other information, should contact Pat Swessel at [email protected].

s 4 to 7 p.m. Annual open house at the Bella Vista Historical Museum, located next to the American Legion at the corner of U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road. New exhibits on display reflect the 100-year history of Bella Vista. Refreshments and door prizes will be available.

Saturday, Oct. 4

s 9 a.m. In celebration of St. Francis Day, the public may bring their pets to a special Blessing of the Animals in the upper parking lot at St. Theodore's Episcopal Church, 1001 Kingsland Drive in Bella Vista. Pet food or other donations will be collected for the Bella Vista Animal Shelter.

s 7 p.m. The Little O' Oprey Country Music Showcase opens at the corner of Main and Campbell in West Fork. The evening will feature a house band and guest entertainers. A full snack bar is on site. Tuesday, Oct. 7

s 6:30 p.m. The Weekly Vista will sponsor a forum for Bella Vista's four mayoral candidates at Riordan Hall. The candidates will have time to introduce themselves, then will answer several questions prepared by the newspaper staff. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Coffee and water will be provided. No questions will be taken from the audience. However, anyone who would like to submit a question for consideration should call The Weekly Vista at 479-855-3724 or email [email protected].

Wednesday, Oct. 8

s 5 p.m. Meet the Candidates, a party featuring patriotic music, cheeseburgers, ice cream and the candidates who are running for Bella Vista mayor, will be held at Simple Pleasures Event Center, 13718 Rothbury Drive in the Highlands. Gates open at 5 p.m. and serving time will be from 5:30 to 6:30. No purchase is necessary to attend.

Saturday, Oct. 11

s 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. An old-fashioned party with music, free hot dogs, games and other activities will kick off the campaign to raise money to expand the Bella Vista Public Library, 11 Dickens Place. The festivities will begin with the JM Brass Band marching down Dickens Place playing "76 Trombones." They also will play Dixieland music in the library parking lot. Mayor Frank Anderson, honorary chairman of the campaign, will outline the reasons for expanding the library building, while co-chairs Doug Farner and Susan Santos will highlight the plan. Tents will be set up for outdoor activities. The Friends of the Library will have a book sale under a tent in the parking lot.

Sunday, Oct. 12

s 2 p.m. Lois Haase will give a repeat presentation on "The History and Craft of Miniatures" at the Bella Vista Historical Museum, located at the corner of U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road. Several of her miniature dollhouses and other creations are on display at the museum through late October. Admission is free.

Sunday, Oct. 19

s 4 p.m. Bella Vista American Legion Post 341 will host a silent auction, dinner and talent show at the post, located at U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road. The auction begins at 4 p.m. with dinner at 5 and the show at 6. Tickets are required and can be purchased for $12 each or $20 per couple at the post during normal hours. Space is limited to the first 126 people. Proceeds from the auction will go to support American Legion Baseball in Benton County and to start a boys' and girls' youth competitive air rifle shooting team. Payment of auction items will be by cash or check only and must be made that evening. Talent of all types and ages is welcome. There is no entry fee, and cash will be paid to the top three performers at $100, $50 and $25, respectively. Call Doug at 479-426-8723 to sign up. The olios will feature singing, dancing, comedy and skits with light refreshments being served. s 10 a.m. The Bentonville-Bella Vista chapter of Altrusa International will host a mah-jongg tournament at the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, 100 Cooper Road, to benefit children's literacy. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. The entry fee, due in advance of the event, is $25 per participant and covers play, lunch and prizes. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four players. Saturday, Nov. 1

s 3 to 10 p.m. Heartbeat of the Ozarks Classic Car Club will host a charity event, "Hot Rods and Heroes: A Tribute to Our Veterans," at the Arkansas Air Museum at Drake Field in Fayetteville. The evening will include a classic car cruise-in, a tour of both the military and civilian museums, dinner, a live band, a silent auction and door prizes. An open bar featuring a local winery and brewery will be available. Tickets are $35 each or $50 per couple and must be ordered in advance. s 6 p.m. A Vintage Affair, benefiting the Multiple Sclerosis Society, will be held at Town Center in Fayetteville. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at the door. The fundraiser will include a wine tasting, heavy hor d'oeuvres and a cash bar, silent and live auctions and a wine pull, where patrons buy numbers without knowing exactly which bottle of wine they will win.
