Trail of Tears programs to be presented

SPRINGDALE -- The Arkansas Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association will host an afternoon of programs from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Programs include:

• The Little Rock Riverfront and the Trail of Tears;

• The Benge Route through Arkansas: The Fayetteville Story;

• Cane Hill and the Trail of Tears;

• Marking the Trail of Tears in Arkansas.

The Trail of Tears Association is a national support network for the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. Designated as a national historic trail by Congress in 1987, the trail commemorates the forced removal of the Cherokee people from their homelands in the southeastern United States to Indian Territory -- present-day Oklahoma -- from 1838 to 1839. The Arkansas Chapter focuses on the history and recognition of Indian removal routes through Arkansas.

The Shiloh Museum is located at 118 W. Johnson Ave. in downtown Springdale. For more information, call 479-750-8165 or visit shilohmuseum.org.
