s 1 to 3 p.m. The Arkansas Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association will host an afternoon of programs at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson Ave., in downtown Springdale. Topics include: The Little Rock Riverfront and the Trail of Tears; The Benge Route through Arkansas: The Fayetteville Story; Cane Hill and the Trail of Tears; and Marking the Trail of Tears in Arkansas. Tuesday, Aug. 5

s 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will conduct a blood drive at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1 St. Bernard Lane, in Bella Vista. Type A negative is especially needed. To be eligible to give blood, a person must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and present photo identification. Each donation will be awarded LifePoints as a part of CBCO's donor rewards program. LifePoints may be redeemed online for a variety of gift cards, or points may be assigned to other meaningful causes or charities. More information on the program may be found at www.cbco.org. s 5 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to join the Bella Vista Police Department for its annual Night Out event at the Kingsdale Pavilion. Bella Vista residents can enjoy live music, free food, a car show, games and child fingerprinting while gathering information on various community programs, including Project Lifesaver, Operation Good Morning, neighborhood house watch and car seat installation. Sunday, Aug. 10

s 2 p.m. Lois Haase will give a presentation on "The History and Craft of Miniatures" at the Bella Vista Historical Museum. Several of her miniature dollhouses and other creations will be on display at the museum from August through October. The museum is located at the corner of U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road, next to Bella Vista American Legion Post 341, and is open for visitors from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is free.

s 3 to 6 p.m. The American Legion Auxiliary invites the public to join in "Memories of an Old-fashioned Summer Picnic" at Bella Vista Post 341, located at the intersection of U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road. Hot dogs, watermelon, lemonade and homemade ice cream will be served. Attendees are encouraged to bring their children or grandchildren along, as s'mores will also be made. Cost of the event is a free-will offering or a donation to wounded veterans.

Saturday, Aug. 16

s 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Highlands Church's 24th annual Homes Tour will feature five homes in Bella Vista. There also will be activities in the fellowship hall at the Church, 371 Glasgow Road, including the Highlands Cafe, where hot dogs, chips, dessert and drinks will be sold; an antique fair, where there will be antique sales as well as appraisals of antiques for a fee; and a free classic car show. In addition, there will be a raffle. At each home, chances can be purchased for $1 each or $5 for six. Each home will have a gift card valued at $200 for Lowe's, Allen's Foods, Pinnacle Promenade Shops including Best Buy and Target, Walmart and a Visa card. Advanced tickets are $10 and may be purchased at Bella Vista banks or from church members. Tickets are $12 on the day of the tour and may be purchased at the homes or the Highlands Gate. s 5 to 9 p.m. Granny's Quilts of Love invites the public to its annual dinner and auction in the cafeteria at Pea Ridge High School. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. and the auction will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The meal includes pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, coleslaw, pickle, chips, homemade dessert and drink. The cost is $6 per adult and $4 per child with children 2 and under eating for free. The club will raffle off two prizes -- $1,000 cash and a Bosch dishwasher. Lancashire Blvd. A combination of secular, gospel and contemporary music will be presented under the direction of Bill Hesse with Marilyn Lee providing accompaniment on piano. Irving Berlin music will be featured. Guest artists will be Virginia Paschal on the violin and Willa Avery Thomason on the cello. The ArkAppella chorus, under the direction of Prudence Hagan, will also be on the program.
