Community picnic slated Aug. 10

The American Legion Auxiliary invites the public to join in "Memories of an Old-fashioned Summer Picnic" from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Bella Vista Post 341.

The auxiliary will serve hot dogs, watermelon, lemonade and homemade ice cream. Attendees are encouraged to bring their children or grandchildren along, as s'mores also will be made.

Cost of the event is a free-will offering or a donation to wounded veterans.

Additionally, the Bella Vista Historical Museum, located next door to the American Legion at the intersection of U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road, invites everyone who plans to attend the picnic to come early and tour the museum first. The museum doors open at noon and admission is free.

Exhibits are on display that tell the story of the 100-year history of Bella Vista starting with the creation of Lake Bella Vista in 1915, the opening of the summer resort in 1917 by the Linebarger brothers, the Keith years at the resort in the 1950s, on through the 50 years since Cooper Communities opened the retirement and recreation village in 1965.
