Encore Books!

The Friends of the Bella Vista Public Library's used-book store is holding a super sale through July 31. Fill a bag to the brim with books from the sale tables for only $5. The bookstore is open six days a week during regular library hours. The store offers everyday low pricing on hardbacks, DVDs, puzzles, children's books, paperbacks, biographies, health and wellness topics and much more. All proceeds from this ongoing fundraiser support the library.

Summer Reading

Adults and youngsters alike will enjoy Jerry "The Bug Man" Williams' insect collection and discussion on Arkansas bugs at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. The Reading Roundup will follow with the awarding of certificates and prizes. To receive a certificate, reading logs must be turned in by Friday, Aug. 1.

Knitting Club

Both experienced and beginning knitters are invited to brush up on their skills and learn some new techniques at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 and 19. Novices will be guided by experienced knitters. Participants may bring their current projects or start a new one. Attendees must bring their own supplies.

Teen Writing Club

Youth age 12 and older are invited to participate in this program led by local author Debbie DeShields. The next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.

Technical Tuesday

Those who desire help with computers, e-readers or other "techie" devices are invited to sign up for assistance on Tuesday, Aug. 12. Register at the front desk for a time slot between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Color My World

Grade-school children through adults are invited to color their cares away at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16. Attendees of this free program will use the provided crayons to complete t a famous picture.

Sci-fi Book Club

Science-fiction fans are invited to discuss "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" by Neil Gaiman at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the library.

Brainteasers

The library hosts this event on the third Wednesday of each month. The next session will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 20. Brainteasers packets are available at the front desk.

Exhibits

August's exhibits include original works by the Bella Vista Photography Club and a Will Rogers collection from Jim Glasscock.

Hours of operation

The Bella Vista Public Library's regular hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. The facility is just east of Town Center at 11 Dickens Place. Call 479-855-1753 or visit www.bvpl.org.

FOL Book Club

The Friends of the Library Book Club meets at 9:30 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The selection for Aug. 27 is "The Last Runaway" by Tracy Chevalier.

Mystery Book Club

Fans of all types of mystery, crime and suspense novels are invited to join the club, which meets in the library from 6 to 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. The books of Dorothy Sayers and Tim Dorsey will be the topic Aug. 20.

Check out a Kindle

Kindle Paperwhites and Kindle Fires are available for checkout to patrons in good standing. Each device is loaded with a specific genre of book -- science fiction, bestseller nonfiction, western, inspirational, etc. -- and may be checked out for three weeks. See library staff members for the checkout agreement and procedure.

Floral arrangement

August's arrangement was designed by Janice Kennedy. Each month, a member of the Bella Vista Garden Club creates an original floral design to be displayed for patrons' enjoyment.

Preschool Story Time

Volunteer storytellers visit the Bella Vista Library at 9:30 a.m. every Friday. Readers are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering should call 479-855-1753.

Support the troops

The library has teamed up with The Weekly Vista to send care packages to U.S. military troops serving overseas. Pick up a brochure listing the needed supplies, then drop off donations inside the library.
