Orchestra to perform holiday concert

BENTONVILLE -- The Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra invites the community to celebrate "Christmas with the APO."

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Arend Arts Center, located at 1901 S.E. J St. on the Bentonville High School campus.

The repertoire includes the Washington Junior High School Cantanti's performance of holiday classics, "Silent Night" and "Sleigh Ride," under the direction of choir teacher Shelly O'Dell. Dan Skoff, KNWA chief meteorologist, will recite the holiday favorite, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," accompanied by the APO.

Additionally, Vivaldi's "Winter" from "The Four Seasons" will be performed by concertmaster and University of Arkansas professor, Er-Gene Kahng.

The community is invited to join the APO's maestro, Steven Byess, for a conductor's chat at 6:30 p.m. prior to the performance as he talks about the musicians and the music they love to perform.

Tickets to the concert are $25 for adults, $10 for college students and $5 for other students. They can be purchased at the door the night of the performance or in advance by phone at 479-841-4644, by email to [email protected] or online at http://arkansas
