The Artist Retreat Center's featured photographer for the August Fourth Friday photography event is Danny Hurley of Dallas.

Hurley's show at The ARC is titled "Our Fathers' Tools."

Hurley is a collector of American-made vintage hand tools. He photographed some of his collection in fine detail and used his own handmade filters to make these familiar items have a "painterly feel."

Hurley has taught for the photo and art departments at the University of Texas and Texas A&M. He has photographed for a variety of clients, such as Southwest Airlines, Pier One, Texas Monthly, Dallas Observer, the Wall Street Journal and MTV.

An opening for the exhibit will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at The ARC, 13467 Lookout Drive in Bella Vista. Although Hurley will not be able to attend the opening, he will be available via Skype to answer questions about his work and discuss his technique.

Two northwest Arkansas musical instrument makers, John Cook and Josh Blades, will bring some of their hand tools and handmade instruments for display and talk with guests.

The opening is free and open to the public. The exhibit will remain on display until Sept. 22.

The ARC is a nonprofit organization that provides an 8-acre nature and artists' retreat at the historic two-story log cabin on U.S. 71B at the south end of Bella Vista. The center offers classes, workshops and sponsored events.
