Village Baptist

The Rev. Bill Bowen will bring the message at the 10:15 a.m. service Sunday, Aug. 24, at Village Baptist Church. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9 a.m. A nursery is provided during the worship service.

Presbyterian Church

The Missions Committee at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista is collecting personal care items for the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter to be given to the children as they leave the facility. A list of items needed for the packets and a donation box are available in the connector hallway. Monetary contributions would also be appreciated to help purchase supplies.

Ladies of the church will gather for the monthly Birthday Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22. Those planning to attend should sign up in advance at the information center.

On Sunday, Aug. 24, and the fourth Sunday of each month, items are collected for the Helping Hands food pantry in Bentonville. The requested items this month are dry or canned pasta, beans and rice, although any food items and monetary donations would be appreciated. Donations may be placed on the table located in the connector hallway at the church.

The Chancel Choir is taking a break during the summer. Special music will be presented each Sunday until the choir returns Sept. 7.

An exercise class meets from 8 to 8:45 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the fellowship hall. It is free of charge and open to the community.

Bella Vista Lutheran

Construction is well under way on the expansion project at Bella Vista Lutheran Church. Targeted for removal are trees and shrubs that front Forest Hills Boulevard to make way for a new parking lot. Workers are also clearing an area behind the building for a children's play area and storage of construction materials while the project continues.

Meanwhile, the popular Shepherd's Food Pantry proceeds unabated in an effort to lessen neighborhood hunger. The pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Friday at 1990 Forest Hills Blvd. July figures show that 672 people from 170 families were served, up from 503 people in June.

The family life ministry team is involved in stocking closets for teachers of grades 3-5 in the Gravette School District to spare the teachers' use of personal funds to purchase paper, pencils, markers and other items. Large boxes are located in the church narthex for collections, and contributions are welcome prior to delivery later in August.

Church members' "quilts of love" will be auctioned Saturday, Aug. 23, during a pulled pork dinner from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Pea Ridge High School. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children and free for kids under 2 years. Proceeds will buy materials to make quilts for Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Highland Christian (Disciples of Christ)

The Prayer Group will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Highland Christian Church. Choir rehearsal will be at 4 p.m., and the Lantz and Hole Shepherd Group will meet at 5:30 p.m.

Highlands Church

GriefShare is a grief recovery support group where people can find help and healing for the hurt of losing a loved one. Dates for Walk to Emmaus weekends this fall are Sept. 26-28 for women and Oct. 3-5 for men. Anyone who would like more information should contact the church office.

A new Bible Study, "Walking By Faith: Lessons Learned in the Dark" by Jennifer Rothschild, will begin Sept. 9. This six-week study will be offered at two different times -- from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

First United

Methodist

A prayer service is held at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the chapel at the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista. Junior and senior high students can participate in Youth Life at 7 p.m.

The Rev. Jaimie Alexander will continue the sermon series, "Cool Aid: First in My Heart! Spiritual Simplicity Refreshed," on Sunday, Aug. 24. The message is titled "The Holy Spirit" and is based on John 4:14-15. Traditional services are held at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with a contemporary service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school classes for all ages are also held at 9:30. A nursery is provided.

Bazaar workshops are held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Thursday in the downstairs quilt room. Snacks are available, and those planning to stay the day may bring a sack lunch. No particular talent is required, but those with sewing abilities are greatly appreciated.

Caregivers Support Group provides an essential support system for those who are primary caregivers of family or friends. The group meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in room 5.

Catholic Church

Crazy canasta will be played the first Monday of each month, Oct. 6 through May 4, at St. Bernard Catholic Church of Bella Vista. A social time will be at 6 p.m. with snacks provided. Play begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $1 per person each night. Everyone is welcome.

Parish food pantry distributions are made through the parish office during regular office hours, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Bingo will be played Thursday, Aug. 21. Doors and a snack bar open at 5:45 p.m. and play starts at 6:30. The jackpot is always set at $1,000, and all proceeds go to local charities. The community is welcome.

Each fall, thousands of people throughout the world gather at community parishes to study and discuss the teachings of Jesus Christ. St. Bernard calls its sessions "The Journey of Faith." The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 in the parish hall and will provide an opportunity for people from all walks of life to come and see if this is something they would like to participate in. Evangelical Free

Oasis Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Village Bible Evangelical Free Church.

Also Wednesday, the Building Committee will meet at 4 p.m. and the Women's Ministry Board will have a 5:30 p.m. dinner meeting. A Wednesday night class and meditation are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday at Unity Church of the Ozarks. The topic for tonight is interpreting the Bible or other sacred texts metaphysically.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry Team makes prayer shawls for people who have lost a loved one.
