USGA rep to visit village courses

An agronomist with the United States Golf Association will visit Bella Vista Village's golf courses today.

Ty McClellan will meet with Keith Ihms, the Property Owners Association's golf course maintenance manager, and golf course superintendents at 8 a.m. to discuss maintenance issues affecting the village's courses.

At 10 a.m., McClellan will meet with members of the POA Board of Directors, Golf Joint Advisory Committee and management at the Scotsdale Golf Shop for a tour of the course. The tour is open to the public and will occur rain or shine.

In addition, the public is invited to an open discussion meeting, which will take place at 3 p.m. at Riordan Hall, 3 Riordan Drive.

Bowlers needed for fall league

Bowlers are being sought for a fall league that will play at 9:30 a.m. Fridays starting Sept. 12 at the Rogers Bowling Center.

This recreational mixed league is open to men and women -- singles and couples -- age 40 and up.

Anyone interested in joining should call Mary Ann Boelter at 479-876-5334.

Bowling league seeks players

A Thursday Morning Mixed Bowling League is being organized for the 2014-15 season.

The group will play at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays at the Rogers Bowling Center starting the week of Sept. 7. Openings are available for men, women or couples.

This handicap league is not sanctioned by the American Bowling Congress. It is designed for recreation, sociability and fun for adults over 50.

Anyone, regardless of skill level, who would like to join should contact Bruce Burgess, league secretary, at 479-855-1593.

Scotsdale support group forming

Lads and Lassies for Scotsdale Golf Course, an organization to support maintenance, make improvements and promote play on the Scotsdale Golf Course, is being formed.

Anyone wishing to be an active member of this group and/or receive information on activities and events needs to contact Barbara Downs at [email protected] to be placed on the email list.

An organizational meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 with a nine-hole golf event. The sign-up sheet is at Scotsdale's clubhouse desk.

A hot dog roast will follow at the new Scotsdale picnic area. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share, their own beverages and lawn chairs.

The meeting will start at approximately 6:30 p.m. Especially needed are ideas and direction for the group's organization. People are welcome to attend the meeting even if they are unable to play in the scramble.

Scramble sign-up ends Aug. 18

It's not too late to sign up for the Bella Vista Women's Nine-hole Golf Club's annual Member-Guest Four-Lady Scramble.

The event will be played Monday, Aug. 25, with a 9 a.m. shotgun on the Berksdale Golf Course. Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m.

Deadline to sign up is Aug. 18.

The entry fee is $35 per player or $43 if half a rental cart is needed. Players with gold cards should subtract $10. The price includes green fees, continental breakfast, lunch and prizes.

No handicap is required. Groups will be flighted after play. Every foursome must include at least one Bella Vista Women's Nine-hole Club member; however, everyone is welcome. Those who want to play and don't have an invitation from a club member may fill out the registration form, and they will be placed in a foursome.

Registration forms are available at all Bella Vista clubhouses as well as on the Property Owners Association's website -- www.bellavistapoa.com.

Triathlon to benefit Alzheimer's Association

The 2014 Memory Maker Triathlon and Aqua Bike benefiting the Alzheimer's Association will take place Saturday, Aug. 23, at Bella Vista Village's Lake Windsor.

The race will begin at 7:15 a.m. at London Park and then move onto the area roads around Bella Vista.

Hundreds of athletes are expected to participate in the event aimed at raising money for and awareness of Alzheimer's disease, the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.

Racing events available are:

• A sprint distance triathlon, which includes a 500-meter swim, 15-mile bike ride and a 5-kilometer run;

• An Olympic distance triathlon, which includes a 1,500-meter swim, 24.8-mile bike ride and a 10-kilometer run;

• A sprint distance aqua bike, which includes a 500-meter swim and a 15-mile bike ride;

• An Olympic distance aqua bike, which includes a 1,500-meter swim and a 24.8-mile bike ride.

Events can be competed in individually or as teams.

Registration is open through 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, or until the 300 participant entries have been filled. There will be no race day registration.

Packet pickup is from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at GPP Fit NWA, 2877 W. Walnut, Rogers. Participants can also pick up packets on race day at London Park.
