Police plan drug take-back, food drive

The annual spring Drug Enforcement Administration's Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 26, at the Bella Vista Police Department.

The theme of the eighth year of the take-back event is "Remove the Drugs; Feed the Need," Bella Vista Capt. Tim Cook said, and this year the department will hold a food drive along with the collection event.

A representative from the Hunger Relief Alliance will be on site collecting nonperishable food items, which will be divided between food pantries in the city, Cook said.

The drug collection event is intended to keep dangerous and highly addictive prescription drugs out of the wrong hands, and also out of landfills and the area's groundwater.

Residents can drop off unwanted or expired prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications for proper disposal by law enforcement officials.

An officer will be available for the collection inside the lobby during the four-hour event.

Residents can also drop off medications in the green box, located outside the Police Department in Town Center, at any time.

No needles, syringes or lancets will be accepted.
