Bella Vista history

on display

Along with the other volunteer docents at the Bella Vista Historical Museum, I act as a guide when visitors come to visit the museum and answer as many questions as I can about the history of Bella Vista.

On more than one occasion, I have been surprised to hear a visitor say they had no idea that any of Bella Vista existed prior to John Cooper Sr. founding the village nearly 50 years ago, in 1965.

With that thought in mind, we would like to invite everyone to visit the museum to learn about the entire history of Bella Vista starting with the Baker family, who dammed up Sugar Creek in 1915 to create Lake Bella Vista.

Yes, that is correct. Next year Bella Vista will be 100 years old.

The museum is open five afternoons a week, from Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. It is located on U.S. 71 at Kingsland, next door to the American Legion.

For those who have visited the museum in years past, please note that it was renovated last year with new exhibits added to both the front and back rooms, so it looks completely different now. You need to make a return visit. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
