WinterFest promises family fun

Groups needed to sponsor bazaar booths and activities, and perform holiday acts on the Frisco Stage.

— Main Street Rogers is planning a new event for the holiday season.

On Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Winter-Fest will spread out through the Rogers Historic District, offering extended hours to visit Father Christmas at “Santa in the Park.” Children can purchase gifts for parents and siblings at “Elf House” while parents shop the holiday open houses at the many stores downtown.

Visitors can also experience the WinterFest Bazaar, where manybooths will offer baked goods, arts and crafts; or catch the pageantry of Christmas as performed on the Frisco Stage.

Carriage and Christmas train rides will be available for a nominal fee.

Main Street Rogers, the Frisco Lakes Pageant Association and the Rogers Little Theater will sponsor a pageant to crown WinterFest Queen and WinterFest Princess at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Victory Theater in downtown Rogers. In addition to the title, crown, gift packages and a $50 savings bond, the winners will ride in the MSR Christmas Parade on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. and preside over MSR WinterFest from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 12.

Deadline to enter the pageant is Dec. 3. Entry forms and rules are available online atwww.rogerslittletheater.org and www.mainstreetrogers.com.

The WinterFest committee invites all nonprofit organizations, area churches, civic groups and businesses to participate on Dec. 12. Groups can host an event, such as a game with a Christmas theme, a children’s ornament workshop or a cookie walk. Groups and organizations are also invited to set up a booth at the “WinterFest Bazaar.” Participants can sell baked goods, arts and crafts, bazaar items, hot chocolate and more. A small fee will apply. Contact Candy Anderson at936-5487 or [email protected] for details.

Schools, churches and other organizations that are practicing Christmas pageants or choral presentations are asked to consider an additional performance at the Frisco Stage during WinterFest. Main Street Rogers will award several “Best of Show” trophies for the best Christmas performances. Stage time is limited, so contact Dorothy Taylor at 640-1205 or [email protected] to schedule a performance.

The committee is also interested in groups that would stroll around downtown and sing Christmas carols in period costume. Anyone interested should get in touch with Taylor.
